Funny thing happened this morning. I go on Twitter to, you know, twat about mundane things, and I get the message “Twitter is over capacity.” With a cute picture of a whale. I don’t twat a whole lot, but I’ve never seen that before. Flickr has monthly size limits, Pandora has a 40-hour quota, even Twitter has the 140 character limit. But the platform on which these social media are presented seems endless. Like the way pictures, music and words seem unlimited, but “What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done – there is nothing new under the sun.” That’s Biblical (I thought it was Shakespeare – bad literature major, bad!), and since the Bible is the last book on earth I would ever think to quote, I’ll now quote Ambrose Bierce: “There is nothing new under the sun but there are lots of old things we don’t know.”

Thank you, Ambrose. I was about to get all depressed about the meaninglessness of creativity, but then realized that we need to keep creating and not contemplate the consequences of exceeding our bandwidth. Future generations can stumble upon our work and say “this isn’t new, but I’ve never seen it before.”

Why so serious, Kristine? It’s not the new year or the first day back at the office. No, it’s just that I’m in the process of losing it and perhaps have already lost it. I really wanted to tell you all about the proper ways to clean vibrators, but I can’t get all the fuzzy out of my brain. After laying in a bed with no sheets for a week (with a short break for breakdancing and Toubab), I finally got up this morning, took a shower, and experienced a short vampire moment as I left the house (the sun! It burrrrrrrns…). And here I am, babbling incoherently, knowing that art is possible but not new and listening to a not-so-good remix of Judith by A Perfect Circle. If you’re going to make it new, Renholder, at least make it not suck.

All right. I’m going to regroup and come back; apparently ibuprofen and two shots of espresso wasn’t enough. My webpage must also be depressed – it won’t let me post; maybe it’s over capacity too. Happy New Year.
